How to Make a Full time Income With Ebay Online Auctions
 by: Greg Willis

First let me tell you a little about myself. I’m an eBay Powerseller. I did about $100,000.00 in sales on eBay over the last year. I love eBay, and I regularly preach the virtues of eBay to my friends and family. I even gave out eBay gift certificates for Christmas! I’m also a student of the business. I like finding ways to increase my sales and grow my business. Believe it or not, I went to Barnes & Noble bookstore and dropped about $300.00 on eBay books. Now those were some hefty bags of books I walked out with!

With my eBay experience and knowledge I decided to write an ebook about "how to make a full time living by selling on eBay". I researched my "eBay library" from the bookstore, and I searched the internet for other resources. What I discovered was a few things…

First, the books from my collection of books from the bookstore were generally more out-of-date, and less practical from an entrepreneurial point-of-view in comparison with many online resources. The books contained a lot of valuable information, but often fell short where the rubber meets the road in terms of true money-making ability. The second thing I discovered was that the eBay opportunity is so huge, and so many thousands of people have found success, that many have already written excellent material that covered everything I was planning on writing and more!

I’m not a lazy person; I could have written the book, but I decided my time would be better spent on other endeavors since I would essentially have been repeating the same information already written by others. In fact, since that time, I have written a book on a completely different topic. And with my ambition to spread the good news of eBay I decided to create a website to spotlight some particularly helpful resources.

The reason I’ve written this article is to warn you that there is a lot of outdated information out there, and much of it that was never good to begin with. Before purchasing an Ebay "how to" book, please check out the author’s credentials. The best Ebay books (see http://www.auctionsprofit.com) are typically written by real Ebay Powersellers–NOT by famous authors or internet marketers.

The next thing I want to make you aware of is that there are many, many ways to make a full time income on Ebay. Some of them require more work than others. Some involve importing, others involve dropshipping. Some involve keeping a physical inventory, and others utilize virtual downloadable products. The ways of making money on Ebay are as diverse as Ebay itself. There are hundreds of categories, and a myriad of different types of people who shop Ebay. All this goes to say: find your niche. If you’re new to the business, I do recommend buying a guidebook from a successful Ebayer, but if that author’s system is not appealing to you, do not give up and decide it’s not for you. Simply find another niche or another system that IS appealing to you.

I hope this article has inspired you to find your own niche and join the millions who have already discovered a life of eBay success!

eBay Auction Home Business Tutorial: Avoid This Common Listing …

eBay Auction Home Business Tutorial:  Avoid This Common Listing …

My previous eBay auction tutorials have focused on deciding what to sell, and for how much. These are obviously important decisions, but there’s one more vital part of your eBay auction posting that we’ve got to discuss – and that’s the content of your auction listing!

Whether you’re selling your own ebook of soup recipes or old soup labels, the sale itself all comes down to the listing you write. After all, the listing is the initial interaction you have with potential buyers, and it doesn’t get any more important than that!

When I started selling on eBay eight years ago, I made some classic mistakes that I’ve since corrected, and I’ve seen plenty of other beginners make the same mistakes. My next few eBay auction tutorials will focus on these mistakes, so you can avoid them and maximize your sales and profits. After all, that’s what we’re after!

If there’s only one piece of advice I can give you about eBay listings, it would be to spell-check your listings, including the title. And while you’re spellchecking, make sure to spellcheck the spelling of every word in your description and title!

A misspelled word in your title can cost you sales and money. For example, let’s say you’re selling homemade jewelry. When you create your eBay auction listing, eBay will ask you for a concise description of your item. If you misspell jewelry as "jewlry", eBay buyers who search on "jewelry" will not see your item. It takes only a moment to spellcheck your listing, so make sure to do so!

Misspellings of this type are so common that there are actually eBay buyers who make money buying items like the "jewlry" we just discussed. These buyers pick up valuable items very cheaply, since most interested buyers won’t even see it in their search results due to the misspelling. These same buyers turn around and sell the item with a well-written description and make big money. There’s nothing wrong with them doing this, but you don’t want to miss out on sales just because you didn’t spellcheck your item description.

The eBay listing feature doesn’t have a spellcheck feature, but I’m willing to bet that your computer has a word processor program such as Microsoft Word that does. I recommend that you write your eBay auction listing in Word, spellcheck it when you’re done, and then copy and paste it into the eBay window. This way, you can also save your description for easier editing in the future.

Starting your own eBay auction home business is one of the best decisions you can ever make. It’s paid off big for me, and I know it can do the same for you. By taking the time to take care of details – by using your "sense" – you will soon be making BIG dollars on eBay. So get started, and I’ll see you tomorrow with another eBay auction tutorial!

Making Money On The Net, Really? by keith Lee

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Making Money On The Net, Really? by Keith Lee

Throughout the web, you will find hundreds of business opportunities. From selling coffee to selling cars, you’ll find hundreds of things that you have the opportunity to get into to make money. Yet, it is sad to report to you that on average, 70% of all new home based businesses will fail within the first three years that they are out there. Now, before you get discouraged, realize that they do this because of several reasons.

1. They are poorly executed, by individuals that are looking for a get rich quick scheme and realize that, well; it takes work to make money.

2. They are scams that were un-researched, poorly designed or just plain old dumb to start with.

3. The individuals that got into them didn’t have the income to put into the business to make the business work.

With that said, there are some excellent things that you can do to actually make an income from home. You will likely need to invest something in it (you don’t get something for nothing!) and you’ll have to invest time in making it work well.

Here are some things that you can do in brief.

Affiliate Marketing

This is an easy to understand concept. You’ll design a website that is geared at selling someone else’s product. You get a cut for the sales that are made because someone that came to your website makes a purchase. Often, you get a kickback even if they just visit the site. This is one of many programs that you can usually do together to make even more money. In other words, pair it up with other business opportunities and you are sure to see some profit.

Selling Readymade Products

For those that are looking to sell a product that someone else has made, check out these. Often, these are sold by the development of a website that promotes the product. Things like digitalized products or software are very hot sellers. People come to your website to learn about the product and you sell it to them or provide a link to where they can purchase it. In most cases, you get a commission like payment for doing this.

Think you can’t just sell products online anymore? You can. In fact, you’ll even be able to find products that are below cost and sell them with a good mark up as well.

Writing And Selling Ebooks

People come to the internet to get information. Why not sell it to them? If you have knowledge (or can get it) about a topic that others want to learn about, you can easily tap into this business market. All you need to do is to write an ebook (or have it written by a professional) and market it. This can be done through eBay or through hundreds of other methods.

Joint Venture

You can often team up your sales with others that are selling the same or similar products. By working together, you can hit a larger amount of people and pull in more sales. A joint venture usually splits the commission made as well as the cost of doing business.

Ecourse

Are you able to teach an individual something? If so, then you should write up an ecourse. This is simply a series of emails, of website information or any other medium that is used to teach or coach an individual. You simply provide information they want and they pay you to do it.

Teleseminars

If you are a good speaker and have information to sell (or that you can obtain) then teleseminars are the way to go. You simply provide a conference call where individuals can call in and listen to what you are teaching them. Of course, they paid you first.

Public Domain Products

Little did you know that you could use material that is labeled as public domain to help enhance your business. Team this up with other types of marketing and you are sure to sell your product.

Directory or Review Websites

By creating websites where individuals go to receive a product or service, you are opening the door to making profits. Team this up with things like affiliate marketing and Google Adsense and you’ll see an income.

Membership Sites

Develop a membership of individuals that are looking for your products or information. They will pay you monthly to use your service.

Ezines

One of the fastest growing ways of marketing on the web, you simply put together an online form of a magazine or newspaper and sell it. You can also give it away free and fill it with ads to your products or website campaign.

EBay

Learn how to make money on eBay one of the world’s largest auction websites. You can make an income, not just a few dollars if you develop a campaign to do so.

Blogs

Blogs work well on websites. By providing information there about your products or attracting individuals back to your blog, you can promote the products on your website easier.

Google Adsense

Normally individuals pair up Google Adsense with other marketing campaigns to sell their products. This is a way of getting a few extra profits when individuals visit ads that are on your website.

Podcasting

In the digital age, people are looking to stay connected all the time. With podcasting, you can sell your product or service or you can actually build a casting such as a radio show that goes out around the world.

Amazon Book Reseller

If you have books lying around your house that you would like to get rid of, you can become listed on Amazon as a reseller. Unlike eBay this is not an auction site. It’s a great way to sell books that you don’t need. (You can also find free or really cheap ones to sell if you don’t have any!)

Opinion Panels

Why not take a few surveys and make money? There are many survey websites on the web that do actually pay you a good deal of money to take them. Once you find them, its easy sailing here.

Conclusion

Making money online can happen. You have to make the right decision about doing so though. You’ll need to find the business that fits into your life and your needs. Then, you’ll need to learn how to do the business, what it takes and the tricks of the trade. If you can learn this, you can buy it to learn throughout the web. From a little stream to a full time income, the internet is full of ways you can make money.

Important facts you need to know about Selling on Ebay by George Pierce

Selling on Ebay is almost as easy as buying on ebay.

Thanks to Ebay, selling on Ebay is simple and easy, but there are still a few things you need to know.

Most Ebay members find that they can readily sell some of their treasure that have been stored in the attic, basement, and/ or garage. We need to give Ebay credit, because credit is due. Selling on Ebay is safe and secure. Over the years, Ebay has strove to make their site a unique community. Ebay is one of the busiest sites on the internet, because of their diligence in the areas of trust, safety and security. They have achieved phenomenal success and growth because they have earned it.

Why is this success so GREAT? The members of Ebay benefit directly! The better Ebay becomes, the more that the buyers and sellers benefit.

It has become a circle, more traffic means more sellers. More sellers means more choices and more buyers . Selling on ebay has not only been made easy…Ebay will hand carry you through the process. Ebay also has Ebay university (I am a graduate-smile), which is a wealth of information. More and more people think about going to Ebay before they buy. More and more people are benefitting by selling on Ebay.

Ebay has made selling on ebay so easy because they do not just tell you WHAT TO DO…they tell you HOW TO DO it. If you can follow directions, you can start selling on Ebay. If you have a question, about 99.99% of the time, ebay will have an easy to find and easy to follow answer. If not, Ebay will answer your question or you can probably find a quick answer at Ebay community, where you will find forums, blogs, discussion, chat and more.

Ebay can be proud of the fact that they have over 200,000 members with a growth rate of over 30% last year. Yet, they have maintained a close knit community atmosphere. Ebay members will bend over backwards to help each other! Ebay has successfully created a bond, a unity, a family…also the busiest marketplace on the planet.

Selling on Ebay and Buying on Ebay have never been better. If you are thinking about trying out Ebay as a buyer or seller, by all means, DO IT! You will find that it is easy and simple.

YOU WILL ALSO FIND THAT BUYING OR SELLING ON EBAY IS FUN!

I probably do not need to tell anyone that the buying is fun, but most people are pleasantly surprised to find that SELLING ON EBAY IS FUN. Ebay gets you to try it and then you find out that it is not only easy, IT IS FUN! AHA! You have fallen into Ebay’s trap (GRIN), sell some of your treasures, ENJOY YOURSELF WHILE YOU ARE SELLING ON EBAY, and…the icing on the cake…MAKE SOME EXTRA MONEY!

Actually, there are thousands of ebay members that are enjoying a full time, work at home income from selling on ebay. Ebay is also helping struggling college students, single parents, people in need of extra income and much, much more. In other words, ebay is a steady source of extra income for many, many members as well. If you are considering selling on Ebay as a hobby, great! If you are considering selling on Ebay as a steady source of income, your timing could not be better.

Selling on Ebay as a steady source of income is one of the best ideas that you could have! There are no SECRETS and there is no MAGIC to selling on Ebay. Most of what you will need to know is available for free.

There are a few important facts that you should know!

A steady income will not be maintained by all your treasure. Selling your treasure is a geat way to start, but sooner or later you will need a dependable supply, a dependable source of product or products (whatever you will sell). So you run into the two major questions that a new Ebay seller faces. What do you sell? Where will you get it? The possibilities are endless, which makes your choice even more confusing.

You may want to consider a wholesaler and/or dropshipper. You want and need a steady dependable supply, and you will need to be able to buy low and sell high. You should be able to get a good price from a wholesaler and a dropshipper. A dropshipper will take your order and send it directly to your customer, usually for a fee. The advantages of dropshipping is that you have no money tied up in inventory, no storage problems, and the dropshipper takes care of shipping and handling. A wholesaler usually has minimum quantities, so you will typically end up having the product shipped to you. You will therefore have money tied up in product(risk) and you will have to handle shipping and handling. Do not rule out wholesale opprotunities, but as a new seller you should look long and hard at dropshipping. Later, with more experience and more capital, you may want to get into wholesale or bulk buying…you can make a killing in this way…you can also lose your shirt. So WAITING until you have more experience and money is good advice.

I am a webmaster and have several sites about starting up an internet business…I have one particular site which has a whole section dedicated to just Ebay. You might be curious about some of the history of ebay, but you will also find helpful resources and tools, that you can use to solve the questions of what to sell and where to get it. Did you know that there are tools that can help you use Ebay itself as a source of supply, and how you can make handsome profits.

You will find that after you visit the ebay section, you will have information to help you solve the problem of product and supply.

You are almost ready to start making money, selling on Ebay, just one more important issue that you need to be aware of.

An EBAY STORE!

When using Ebay as a steady source of income, please consider an ebay store, immediately, or sooner-smile. The advantages far outweigh any disadvantage. There is really no disadvantge…the small cost will save you money. With an Ebay store, you can open a store in the busiest market place in the world!!!… with very little start up cost! As an ebay store owner, you will have everything you need to run an online store…ebay has thought of it all. (There are a few accounting and Email tools, you will need later, but not until your business and your client base is built up). You will have fun and make money…oh yeah…one other fact…you will need to provide some time and effort…I call that "the law"…law of economics. On the other hand, with some investment of time and effort, you have an opportunity to leverage your income…your income is unlimited. A part-time venture with little start up cost has the potential of making you a lot of money! Ebay has made it so simple that anyone can do it! I wish you MUCH SUCCESS with your new Ebay store!

Sincerely,

George Pierce

Make Money

by: Darrell Knox

If you learn how other people make money online, I mean really study how it’s done and ask a lot of questions, there is no reason in the world you cannot make money on the internet as well.

How do people make money with websites? There are literally tens of thousands of things people make money on from the net. From hard goods of all kinds (anything that can be shipped, including cars and boats!) to information and memberships.

People make money selling insurance, car parts, reports on every imaginable topic people want to know more about, selling affiliate products, and even fundraising for charity!

That’s right! People make money helping their favorite charities raise money. By creating an in-demand product for a charity to sell to their members, and letting them keep at least 50%, you can make money as a professional fundraiser.

I know someone who makes money selling a dog biscuit and dog food cookbook! That’s right, a cookbook for dog lovers to make treats for their pets. I told you! Anything goes on the net as long as there are buyers looking for what you sell.

It’s truly mind boggling how some people make money online. You just have to be creative and understand how the net works and how people shop online. You have to know how to get into the search engines so people can find you.

And most of all you need a couple good ideas, or find other people with great ideas and sell THEIR stuff for commission! There is no excuse for failure – the world of internet marketing is your oyster!

There are tons of resource sites that can help you understand every single minute detail of making money online from setting up a website to choosing a hosting service to taking credit cards and filling orders. There’s nothing else like it in the world.

I have a site that helps people find ways to make money online. I make money with information products, and help others learn how to make money online doing the same thing.

Some people make money on Ebay auctioning things people are searching for right now all over the world. Still other people sell their time as Virtual Assistants helping busy executives and other business owners complete mundane but important tasks the business owner has no time to do.

With some referrals, over time you can be busier than you ever imagined with clients beating down your door because they heard you do great work at reasonable rates. All this without ever meeting ANY of your clients face-to-face. Working online makes working for people in other countries a snap, as long as you speak the language, it’s no different than if the person you sell to or work with lives right down the street.

Bottom line: You CAN make money online if you are the type of person who is a self-starter and motivated to work toward your goals even when the going gets tough.

Too Darn Many Ways To Make Money! by Dale Calvert

Too Darn Many Ways To Make Money! by Dale Calvert

Affiliate Marketing, Google Ad Words, Google Ad Sense, Network Marketing, Niche Marketing, Direct Mail, Real Estate, Stock Market Investing, Direct Marketing, The 4X Market, High Yield Investment Programs, Direct Sales, EBay and Online Auctions, Information Marketing……………the list goes on and on and on and on.

Where do you start?

What do you do?

Here is a story that you may relate with and hopefully provide a couple of ah ha moments. About 3 years ago I was speaking at an Internet Marketing Conference in Orlando, Florida. On the front row was a bright eyed enthusiastic young man in his twenties named Rob.

I was one of the first speakers at the event and my topic was ‘How to Create a $5,000+ Monthly Income with EBay and Online Auctions’. I could tell during my presentation that Rob was getting excited about the possibilities of making money with EBay & creating cash flow with online auctions.

When my presentation was over several attendees went to the back of the room to invest in one of my training programs. Rob was the first in line. I discovered later that Rob had invested in my Deluxe $1,500.00 How to make money with EBay package which included 8 hours of 1 on 1 training and coaching along with the DVD’s CD’s and manual.

I noticed throughout the weekend that Rob invested in 3 or 4 other programs during the seminar. I thought to myself, this is good. He is a newbie and he is going to try to find the right cash generating program for himself. I had the opportunity to visit with Rob briefly towards the end of the weekend, and sure enough he had inherited about $10,000 recently and decided to invest that money into a financial vehicle that would get him out of his dead end job working for the airlines.

I reminded him to contact our office to schedule his first 1-on-1 coaching session and encouraged him that online auctions can be used as a marketing division with whatever business he choose, even if he didn’t want to do auctions as a stand alone business.

Six weeks later, I was reviewing my client list and going through some records and I realized that Rob had never called our office to schedule his first one-on-one session which he had already paid for. I rarely do this, but I decided to pick up the phone and check in with Rob.

He told me that he had marked in his day timer to call me that week. He then went on to share with me three or four businesses that he had unsuccessfully tried over the past 6 weeks that had not made him a penny. This was a clue, that this gentleman definitely had unrealistic expectations and I made a mental note to discuss this during our first telephone consulting session, which we had scheduled for a week later.

Over the next 5 weeks Rob and I met on the phone once a week. My goal was to teach him how to make money on EBay and become a full time entrepreneur He got 20 items from his closet and garage on EBay during the first week and sold 16, which is statistically above average.

His second week using some techniques we taught he put $301.00 cash in his pocket. The fourth week almost $500.00 more and he jumped over the $500 mark his 6th week earning $711.00. At this point Rob was well on his way to creating a full time income successfully selling on EBay, and I knew it was just a matter of weeks until he would be able to submit his resignation to the airlines.

His sixth week, he didn’t call in for his scheduled training session. I assumed that something had come up and was confident that he would be calling to reschedule. At this point I certainly wasn’t going to beg him to continue his ’self education’.

Three years go buy and I never heard from Rob again, until about 2 weeks ago. The phone rang at our office and my assistant told me there is someone named Rob XXXX on the line. I thought to myself Rob XXXX, I know that name, how do I know that name? (I use XXXX to protect the guilty, but I will personally be sending him a copy of this article)

I took the call, and as soon as I heard his voice everything came back to me. Rob, what happened to you? I responded. I will never forget his response. ‘Well you know what the problem is Mr. Calvert, there are just too darn many ways to make money’ He went on to tell me that he still had his crummy job at the airlines, and all he had been doing for the past 3 years was basically spinning his wheels, trying one entrepreneur enterprise after another.

He said he made the most progress during the short 6 weeks we spent together learning how to make money on EBay and he was ready to pay me my consulting and coaching fee to get him back on track and his income to $3,500 a month with online auctions so he could quit his job.

I see this epidemic everywhere I go. Would be full time, home based, entrepreneurs that are suffering from information over load. They are a jack of all money making methods and a master of none!

Is this you?

I have to admit, at one time that was me. I became so fascinated with the Internet and the possibilities that I spent hours upon hours studying different systems and implementing few or none of those systems.

Here is what I have discovered.

Choose the strategy & systems very carefully.

You must ask yourself, am I looking for short term or long term cash flow?

Is this a system that I want to run for a long time or short time?

What are the realistic income possibilities for this project? This is a very important question. One of the best quotes I have heard over the years is ‘You have to say no to a lot of good projects to make certain you have time for the great ones’

Once you decide on a project, you must STAY WITH IT, until you are profitable!

Always remember that the problem is not the project or the system. If other people are making it work, so can you. The real problem is always in the mirror.

The best money you can spend is on one-on-one coaching from a mentor who knows what they are doing. These type of coaches can take years off of your learning curve, and will pay you back 100 times what you invest in their knowledge and expertise.

I personally do consulting with people in three our four niche markets. I also personally pay a coach in another market I am in the process of mastering. I am always amazed that most of the time the people that hire me to coach or consult with them are already full time entrepreneurs earning strong six figure incomes. Yet the newbie will spend $97.00 over and over for the latest eBooks on the newest hot trend and never even consider hiring a coach. Listen, even Tiger Woods needs a coach!

Once you start a project, STAY WITH IT, until it is profitable.

Think BIG! Once you have a project that is working, ask yourself, how can I duplicate this?

I recently had a lady from Utah call me and wanted to hire me to consult with her one on one to teach here how to make money with EBay & get her business started and profitable. She was very discouraged because she had spent the last six months focusing on how to create a website designed to create income from Adsense. After she got her ’self education’, she built her site in less than 3 hours. She said she had finally figured out the formula after spending almost $2, 0000 on books and courses, but last month she only averaged about $5.00 a day from her sight.

My response, ‘You don’t need me, you need 999 more websites’. This ladies problem was she wasn’t thinking big enough and she wasn’t thinking duplication. I told her after she had 1,000 websites each earning her $5.00 a day ($5,000 a day total) She could call me if she wanted and I could help her get to $5,000 a month in profit with EBay and online auctions. She thanked me for the paradigm shift and hopefully I will never hear from her again until we are speaking together at a seminar somewhere.

Is it time for you to quit spinning your wheels and get focused on exactly what systems and cash generating programs you want to master?

After you decided, get some coaching, get profitable & duplicate!

Sorting Through The Dropship Suppliers To Make Money Selling On Ebay

make money from homeThere are many challenges associated with getting started down the path to dropshipping. One of the biggest challenges is locating the reputable and reliable dropship companies to do business with. The industry has many shady scam artists and here one day gone the next players. The only goal for these dishonest folks is to do everything possible to benefit as much as possible from unwary people who are just trying to make money selling on eBay without being required to invest huge sums of money to get started. If you are considering dropshipping be extremely cautious. Investigate. Be alert and suspicious. Take your time before you decide on the dropship company to supply you products.

First the good news; there are some dropshippers that have already been ‘approved’ by eBay. Now the bad news. Virtually everything they have to offer is already being sold on eBay by many other sellers. You’ll find the way to success is to do the legwork and investigation to locate your own dropship suppliers. Your only other option is to plan on big-time competition and the smallest of profits – if there are profits at all.

If your plan is to use a dropship supplier for your business, you’ll soon discover there is a great deal of difference between dropship suppliers. This will be true even when you are looking at exactly the same items. Your job is to make no assumptions. It is to thoroughly investigate every potential dropship supplier before making any decisions about working with one.

selling on ebayOnce you’ve located a prospective dropship supplier to work with you, start asking questions. How long has the company been in business? How long has the company been doing dropshipping? While you may be willing to deal with a company in a dropship relationship, it’s important to know if they have experience, or if working with you will be their first dropship experience. If you are the first to work with a company there is the potential for you to make money selling on eBay. However there are also some very real risks to be considered. It is important to go into the relationship knowing those risks are there, and to monitor and stay in control of every transaction.

Complete your investigation with each prospective dropship supplier before making any decisions. Be direct and to-the-point in your questioning. Typically it is the company that provides quick, professional answers that will do the same should an issue arise in the dropship process. Make sure you have an accurate understanding of exactly what products are available for dropshipping, the costs involved and the timeliness of shipment that can be expected. Start carefully to double-check that performance is as expected. Then build your relationship and business with the company as they demonstrate their good performance can be maintained. That’s how you will make money selling on eBay using a dropship supplier.

Making Money on eBay is Important

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

I always heard that if you’re not having fun you’re probably not doing it right. It’s not too hard to make money on ebay, here are some tips to help you have fun at the same time you make money from home.

Making Money on eBay is Important –But Are You Having Fun?

make money on ebayAre you still having fun? Karen and I were sitting at the dinner table the other night. She looked over at me and said: "Do you remember why we got started and kept selling on eBay for so long?"

I was a little perplexed and said something like: "Well, we have always made pretty good money."

"Yes –but don’t you remember how much fun it was when we sold something?"

That got me to thinking. It is so easy to get wrapped up in all of the things you have to do to be successful. And, frankly running a full-time eBay business is a lot of work. It is far better than commuting to work for someone else, but it is work nevertheless.

make money from homeThe truth is we do work hard, but we are still having fun. I have the eBay toolbar installed on my computer. This is a neat feature. Every time you sell something a little window pops up in the bottom right of your screen showing the item that just sold. When that happens one part of me says "cha-ching" to myself, but there is another little space in my mind that gives me a personal high-five. I think it triggers a little shot of dopamine in the pleasure center of my brain. The other thing that triggers this is getting a nice feedback comment. Is is fun when you as a buyer win an auction and as a seller when you sell something –especially if it goes for a nice price.

I have been opining here for some time that eBay needs to return their focus to the average seller and not stress big business and big-time consumer products so much. This means focusing on the average buyer too. eBay succeeded not because it was a place to locate a new DVD player, but because auctions are fun. the other part of the "fun" is that you are dealing with real people. I know I much more enjoy buying from another small seller than one of the big professional stores where everything is automated. Yes I am a big believer in automation –but only up to a point. You need to keep the personal touch.

So think about this when you are creating your descriptions and your automated emails. You should set out your payment, shipping and return policy clearly –but also do it in a friendly way. Avoid terms such as

"We only accept…"
"You must…"
"Don’t bid unless…"

You have all seen the kinds of auctions I am talking about where the seller has all these strict rules to follow. That always turns me off and I rarely bid. The same goes for your automated emails. Take the time to add a little personality.
